The monument was created to commemorate the Battle of Haffersford, in which King Herald Firehair triumphed and united the country under his rule, after he was able to annex western Norway, where Norway was ruled by several other kings, but was able to defeat them in that battle. The three swords symbolize peace, unity and freedom, and never go back to war again because no one will ever pull the swords out of the rock.
